20 years “Kontrast: Programm”!

Already in 1996, the four sound tinkerers created the “Einheitsschritt” (3 steps forward and 3 back), an Everblack and true independent classic. With “Death … I find’ good! (1998)”, “80er Jahre (2007)” and the GEWC No. 1 hit “Durchbruch” (2008), the “executioners of black humor” put more dance floor fillers on the parquet. The album “Vision und Tradition” (2008) claimed No. 1 in the German Electronic Web Charts for several weeks, the single “John Maynard” (2014) reached the Top 5 of the German Alternative Charts, and the longplayer “Balance” even climbed to No. 3 in the DAC. Finally, the single “Nachtclub” (2019) continued the series of club hits with rank 3 in the German Electronic Web Charts.

However, since 1999 at the latest, it has been known that Kontrast can not only be biting, but also soulful: “Freiheit? (together with guest singer Ivi) is a touching farewell duet, which consequently became a midtempo hit in numerous clubs. The disarmingly honest look at failed relationships also characterizes the power ballad “Für immer vorbei” (2008), whose video clip on YouTube has already had more than 500,000 views. Finally, the (N)Ostalgie ballad “Ostseekind” (2020) impressively underpinned Kontrast’s reputation for being able to dress up even melancholy themes in catchy sounds, reaching number 2 in the German Electronic Web Charts.

After the success of their fifth longplayer “Unaufhaltsam” (# 4 DAC, # 5 GEWC) Kontrast now dare to take a step back into the past: As with the new recording of “Tod … find’ ich gut!” already announced at the beginning of 2022, the first album “KONTRAST: Programm” is now being reissued, on the occasion of its 20th birthday in remastered sound quality with no less than 17 bonus tracks. The opulent double CD edition will be released on 28.10.2022 by Danse Macabre Records (distribution: AL!VE). In this way, the contrast classics “Einheitsschritt (3 steps forward and 3 back)”, “Freiheit?” and “Tod … find’ ich gut!” are now available for the first time on all major online portals (iTunes, amazon music, Spotify etc.).

No doubt: Dirk, Falko, Roberto and their charming fog spirit remain, even after more than 25 years, what they have always been: a unique contrast in the musical landscape!
